I am Armaan Tagore, a multi-disciplinary artist and musician from New York City. I’m deeply interested in the role technology plays in dissemination of information and the potential it has to help humans come together and work towards a better world. My work emphasizes the way digital mediums like video, images, and text can combine aesthetics with functionality to optimize meaning-making and the spread of human-centered ideas.
Making Music as Tigerland
Tigerland is the name under which I make and release music. Some of my biggest stylistic influences include LCD Sound System, Gorillaz, Daft Punk, Tyler, The Creator, Steve Lacy, Bjork, Justice, Tame Impala, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Massive Attack, Crystal Castles, Siriusmo, George Clanton, KAYTRANADA, Little Dragon and Blood Orange.
In 2024, I released an album titled I’ll Be Gone, You’ll Be Gone, inspired by the 2008 Financial Crisis and the 2003 “War on Terror.” The title is a reference to a dog whistle used by bankers in email exchanges when they agreed to defraud the American public and topple the economy.
Writing & Publishing
I am Creative Director of The New Absurdist, an online publication I co-founded based on Carol Hanisch’s theory of “The Personal as Political.” The primary goal of our publication is to highlight writing pieces that demonstrate how lived experiences can help us better understand the causes of and solutions to various social issues. The publication also emphasizes intersectionality and working class solidarity.
Web Projects
Theory Tools is an online resource designed to help musicians practice and master music theory fundamentals (such as scale degrees, chord voicings, and reading notation).
Antcap.io is a collection of social web games based on politics, economics, and social collaboration. People can have fun as they gain insight into the systems that shape how society functions.
Beliefs
Media can be a path towards unity, solidarity, education, and opportunity. We live in an unprecedented time where inaction and apathy can be catastrophic for vulnerable communities. We must collectively protect each other and advocate for one another. We share one world, and it might as well be the best world we can make it.
We must always remember that human progress is the result of centuries of collective labor, collaboration, and mutual aid.
